National African American Male Wellness Walk Initiative 5K Walk/Run
September 21, 2019 @ 7:00 am - 10:00 am

The OSU Alumni Club of Greater Washington, DC is looking to put together a “passion team” of 5k walkers and runners to participate and support the 5th Annual African American Male Wellness Walk in Washington, DC. On Saturday, September 21st, 2019, men, women, and children will come together for the 2019 Washington D.C. AAWalk to raise awareness and take action to combat the health crisis facing African American men. The event will kick-off at 7AM with the start of health screenings, with the 5k race/walk beginning promptly at 8:30AM.
AAWALK Mission
Founded in Columbus, Ohio in 2004, the AAWalk works to combat the alarming numbers of African American men dying from preventable diseases. To date, the AAWalk averages upwards of 20,000 annual participants and has expanded to several cities outside of Ohio, including Washington, D.C.
Impact on Washington, DC
In recent years, Washington D.C. has consistently ranked in the top two of the Nation’s fittest cities. However, African American residents in the District, specifically native Washingtonians in Ward 7 and Ward 8, are being left behind as they continue to suffer from stark health disparities. If you can’t make it but want to get involved, we ask that folks simply help spread the word to other local community organizations or influential individuals that you feel should be involved.
