ABOUT SLICE OF LIFE

What’s Thanksgiving without pie? Now in its 14th year, Slice of Life has become a tradition in the Washington Metropolitian Area. Pie Sellers and Pie Teams will come together to raise money, ensuring that neighbors facing serious illnesses can enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving meal complete with two delicious pies.

Each pie is baked fresh by gourmet bakery Whisked and picked up on November 24th (the Tuesday before Thanksgiving) at conveniently located pickup sites throughout the region. Choose from five delicious flavors – apple, pumpkin, sweet potato, pecan and a decadent sea salt chocolate chess pie.

Each pie provides a full days’ worth of nutritious meals for a neighbor in need. There’s no easier (or sweeter) way to give back during the holidays!

Order your Slice of Life pie today before sales close on November 19th.

PIE FAQs

What flavor pies are available for purchase?

Food & Friends’ Slice of Life offers 5 delicious flavors of pies baked by Whisked – Apple Crumble, Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Nutty Pecan and Sea Salt Chocolate Chess. The pies range in pricing from $28 – $45

Can you explain the drawing for the Sea Salt Chocolate Chess Pie?

With each purchase of the Chocolate Chess Pie, you receive an entry to win $500 in gift cards to area restaurants. Choose from 10 different metro area favs and Food & Friends partners! You can choose up to three restaurants (equalling $500) from any of the following: Anju, Cane, EatWell DC, Freddie’s Beach Bar, Hanks Oyster Bar, Hot Lola’s, Maydan, Republic, St. Anselm, Woodmont Grill.

How large are the pies?

Each nine inch round pie serves six to eight people.

How will the pie be packaged?

Each pie is packaged in a sturdy, gift-quality box. Your pie will be sealed for freshness.

How should I store my pie?

The apple, pumpkin and sweet potato pies can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

The pecan and sea salt chocolate chess pies can be stored at room temperature for up to 14 days.

I want to enjoy my pie on a later date. How long can I store it in the freezer?

All pies can be stored frozen, for up to three months. As a best practice, we recommend wrapping the pie box in plastic wrap or placing it in an airtight container to preserve freshness and avoid freezer burn.

How do I reheat my pie?

Bake 15-20 minutes at 325 degrees. If pie gets too brown, cover loosely with foil. If frozen, bake 45 minutes to 1 hour.

I have dietary restrictions, can I purchase your pies?

The allergens in the Whisked kitchen include tree nuts (pecans, hazelnuts, coconuts), eggs, milk, and soy. Whisked does not use peanuts in their kitchen.

Whisked is kosher certified through DC Kosher.

How much of my pie purchase is tax deductible?

The fair market value for the purchase of one of our pies is $10.00. Pies purchased for a Food & Friends client are 100% tax deductible. A receipt for tax purposes will be emailed to you after your purchase.
